Education

Jennifer began her studies at Ithaca College as a biology student and decided to study exercise science after receiving a bachelors of science degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Her major was zoology with a minor in psychology. Her interest in science and a 17 year dance career lead her to study exercise science as an elective course at UMASS. Her fascination with how the body reacts under stress and the various neurological, anatomical, and biomechanics principles taught in the course lead to her masters studies. Her area of interest while studying for her masters was in exercise biochemistry, muscle damage, health & fitness, and motor integration. Her graduate research project was a study on the hormone interleukin and its relation to endurance athletes. She has one published abstract in the ACSM’s journal Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, along with having the honor of presenting at their annual national conference. While attending graduate school she was a teaching assistant for the exercise science department and tutor for the UMASS athletic program. Muscle therapy license through the state of Massachusetts licensing board via degree completion at SpaTech.

Professional

Instead of pursuing a Ph.D. she decided to enter the mainstream health and fitness world. Her first position was with NMS Rehabilitation of Worcester County where she was a rehabilitation technician. Thereafter she became the fitness coordinator at the YWCA for the next 8 years. She was the key at totally revising their fitness program with their renovation, which introduced strength and conditioning to hundreds of novice exercisers. She was instrumental in starting senior strength training classes and developed an aerobic certification curriculum which she taught for several years.  After having her second child she joined her husband, Chris Morin, at FitTec as an exercise physiologist. She has a post-rehab certificate. She has been with FitTec since 1998 where she has worked at pharmaceutical corporate fitness centers teaching classes, testing, educating, and training as well as heading FitTec’s home training program. In 2012 she started working for her full muscle therapy and massage license. She will have completed all of her 1 year requirements in Spring 2013.
