Proper Posture and Spine Mechanics

Essential while performing activities of daily living, while at work, and during exercise.

Proper posture and spine mechanics improves Performance and Prevents Injuries.

Low Back

  1. Many overuse injuries occur from poor, habitual posture and improper lifting and bending mechanics.

  2. Whenever possible bend from the hips not the waist

  3. Keep abdomen in when exercising or lifting. The action protects the spine.

  4. Bend your knees and keep your buttock back when lifting.

  5. Don’t twist the spine when lifting a weight especially when the spine is flexed

  6. Keep the low back in a neutral (natural curve) locked position when lifting.

Neck

  1. Avoid forward head posture and rounded shoulders by keeping head and shoulders back and working at a proper workstation.
